Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Blue Springs Jiu-jitsu offers training in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu through the Renato Tavares Association.
Brazilian Jiu-jitsu is a unique groundfighting art that utilizes grappling, chokes and joint locks. Blue Springs Jiu-jitsu offers a very comprehensive BJJ program here in the Kansas City area.
"Jiu-Jitsu" means "gentle art", meaning that a practitioner will use their opponents strength against them and will use their stronger muscles against their opponents weaker muscles. Today, Jiu-jitsu remains one of the most effective and practical martial arts in the world. We teach you to become technicians on the mat by using your wits and fighting spirit, not just brawn.
Master Renato Tavares was born in Rio de Janeiro. He began training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at the age of 6 under Master Gene Rebello. Master Gene Rebello is one of the best BJJ masters in Brazil and is a Black Belt under Carlos and Helio Gracie. Later on Master Renato Tavares trained with Carlson Gracie Sr. for more than 10 years.
Master Renato Tavares moved to the United States in 2002. He currently oversees schools in 9 states and 8 different countries. We are privileged to be a part of his association.

Judo is a martial art that was derived directly from Japanese Jujitsu. It was founded by Dr. Jigoro Kano in 1882. This art focuses on throwing and grappling techniques with its principals being to utilize maximum efficiency and mutual benefit and welfare. Dr. Kano created this art as a sport that would allow practitioners to practice in a fun way and perfect their skills in competition. From a world wide perspective, Judo is one of the most popular sports in the world. It is a required class in Japanese schools and its popularity throughout Europe is tremendous. In 1964 Judo was included in the Olympic games and still is to this day. Our school offers Judo programs for both Kids (6-12) and Adults.
Missouri Jun Fan Gung Fu
Sensei Marble began his martial arts training at the age of 13 in Missouri Jun Fan Gung Fu under the direction of Dr. Myron Harbottle. Dr. Harbottle trained under the direction of Sifu Ron Kealoha who was taught by Bruce Lee. Ron was also an expert in the art of Kempo Karate.
Our Kickboxing / Gung Fu Program teaches Jun Fan Gung Fu (The name given to Bruce Lee's Fighting Method when he first taught Gung Fu in Seattle), which is basically a Chinese style of kickboxing that includes nerve strikes and kicks below the waist, as well as the traditional targets. Our program provides an excellent form of self-defense utilizing hands and feet as weapons. Simplicity (do what is necessary to accomplish the task with the most efficient means possible) and directness (the shortest route to the target without any preparatory, or telegraphic, set-up movements) are key components to this style.
